About the course

The programme is designed with professionals in mind, and this is reflected in the entry requirements. All applicants need to be employed by an organisation who has confirmed they will support their participation in the programme.

The final degree award for this course is: BSc (Hons) Data Science.

The programme typically opens doors to careers in roles such as Data Scientist, Informatics and Data Engineer. According to the iFATE standard, Data Scientists “can work in any sector, public or private, and will often work in a multi-disciplinary team with domain experts, Data Architects, Data Engineers, Analysts, and Technology Professionals”.

What you will study

There are 19 modules taught over 36 months (plus six months end-point assessment (EPA)) At the end of the apprenticeship both the academic and work-based experience will be assessed.

End-point assessment (EPA)

The EPA is a must-pass module and apprentices need to pass it to get their degree as well as apprenticeship. It takes place 6 months after 36 months of study.

Assessment

Some modules adopt a combination of a time-constrained phase tests (which may be carried out online in some cases) and other coursework assessment. Other module assessment methods include reports, posters and presentations.

Entry Requirements

The programme is designed with professionals in mind, and this is reflected in the entry requirements. All applicants need to be employed by an organisation that has confirmed it will support their participation in the programme.

The entry requirements for the apprenticeship are:

  • 112 UCAS points from at least two A levels or equivalent
  • Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, or including mathematics and English

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level within 12 months of starting the programme and prior to the EPA.

Dr. Adebowale Owoseni, MBA, MBCS, SFHEA, is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems and the Programme Lead for the Data Analyst & Data Scientist Apprenticeship Programmes. Before transitioning to academia in 2019, he enjoyed a distinguished 13-year career in financial services, where he led digital transformation projects. His expertise spans digital transformation, digital innovation, fintech, and data analytics. Dr. Owoseni's work bridges theory and practice, contributing to teaching, research, and industry collaborations. He is also experienced in curriculum design, overseeing apprenticeship programmes, and providing consultancy, with a focus on fostering digital skills and professional development for SMEs.
