Service Improvement Project

This module is designed for registered practitioners aiming to achieve the award of MSc Professional Clinical Practice or MSc Nursing (Specialist Practice) - District Nursing with NMC SPQ and Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber (NMC V100). This module seeks to develop an applied knowledge and understanding of service improvement through audit, change management, organisational culture, leadership and education. Students are provided with an opportunity to lead the implementation of a service enhancement / re-design project.

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current issues within clinical practice, relevant to the needs of changing health populations.

2. Demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge and complex problem-solving techniques to suggest change within the clinical practice setting

3. Display conceptual understanding to evaluate critically, approaches to leadership, team working and change management within a specific service improvement.

4. Evaluate methodologies and develop critique of service provision and suggest ways in which service improvement can be led through role-modelling and change.

5. Demonstrate a critical approach to identify gaps in the evidence base and their relevance to clinical practice at local and organisational levels.

6. Propose an improvement to service which is at the forefront of 

Entry Criteria

  • Effective registration with an appropriate Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) in health care, such as NMC or HCPC
  • Minimum 12 months post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
  • Possess BSc (Hons) 2:2 degree award minimum
  • IELTS 6.5 in all criteria

Non-Standard

  • Minimum of three years post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
  • Possess a BSc or 60 credits equivalent at level 6 which must include a research module (or equivalent)
  • Applicants who fall short of the above entry requirements may use the RPL mechanism to contribute towards the above criteria at the discretion of the Programme Leader
