Development opportunities

Colleagues are given regular appraisals with their line manager, which are stored and updated as part of the suite of tools in the ˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿hub digital workplace. To support this, there are many Learning and Development opportunities available for staff to grow their career and boost personal prospects. 

For academics these include: The Open Programme of Academic Professional Development workshops, including routes to reward and recognition such as Advance HE Fellowships and the ˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿ Teacher Fellowship scheme; the Post-Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP); the Programme Leader Development Framework (PLDF); the annual Learning and Teaching Conference, and the Academic Innovation Project (AIP) fund.

Internal coaching and mentoring services are available for all staff to support their work based development goals. Staff development workshops are regularly scheduled on topics relating to personal effectiveness and leadership and management in addition to self-directed learning materials available via Linked In Learning.  

At ˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿ we have a number of staff networks (˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿ Women, Disabled Staff and Allies Network, BAME Staff Network and LGBTQ+ Staff Network) which provide development opportunities to staff such as workshops, and the opportunity to influence policy. To join a network, please e-mail equality@dmu.ac.uk.  Similarly, there are numerous ways in which to engage in development through our EDI work, for example, by becoming part of our ‘Community of Practice’ through  or by participating in our events during the year.  We also have the . Open to all ˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿ students, the scheme enables any member of ˽·¿¾ãÀÖ²¿ staff to apply and harness their own experience to provide guidance as a mentor.
